In an exciting blend of adventure, learning, and cultural exploration, the students of Hawthorne-Scribner High School recently embarked on a memorable educational trip to five remarkable destinations – Murchison Falls National Park, the breathtaking Game Park, the rich Soroti Museum, the prestigious Soroti University, and the impressive Karuma Hydroelectricity Plant.

The trip began with an awe-inspiring visit to Murchison Falls, one of Uganda’s most spectacular natural wonders. Students watched in amazement as the mighty River Nile squeezed through a narrow gorge before thundering down into the placid waters below. This breathtaking sight was not just a visual treat but also a lesson in geography, hydrology, and conservation.
From there, the group enjoyed a thrilling game drive through the Murchison Game Park. Elephants, giraffes, buffaloes, and a wide array of antelopes were spotted, alongside the occasional predator sighting that kept cameras clicking and spirits high. The students gained a deeper appreciation of Uganda’s rich biodiversity and the importance of wildlife conservation.
The journey continued eastward to the Soroti Museum, where students explored collections showcasing the history, heritage, and cultural traditions of the Teso sub-region. The exhibits provided a hands-on experience of anthropology and archaeology, bringing to life Uganda’s rich cultural narrative.
At Soroti University, the students were warmly received and introduced to various academic programmes, research facilities, and innovations. The visit broadened their perspective on higher education opportunities, inspiring many to work hard towards their academic goals.
The final leg of the trip took them to the Karuma Hydroelectricity Plant, where they were given a guided tour explaining how Uganda harnesses the power of the River Nile to generate electricity. The visit provided valuable insights into renewable energy, engineering, and the role of technology in national development.
This trip was not only an adventure but also an enriching educational experience that deepened the students’ knowledge of science, history, culture, and the environment. It also created lifelong memories and strengthened friendships among the students.
We extend our heartfelt gratitude to the parents, sponsors, and the school administration for making this journey possible. Your unwavering support, financial contributions, and encouragement enabled the students to witness first-hand the wonders they have studied in class. Such experiences will undoubtedly inspire them to dream bigger, learn deeper, and appreciate the world around them even more.
Hawthorne-Scribner High School remains committed to providing students with opportunities that blend learning with real-life exploration, and this trip stands as a shining example of that vision.
