Hawthorne - Scribner High School O' level Students

Nestled in the hills of Bududa, on the slopes of Nabweya and in the shadows of Nakatsi and Nusu hills, is Bududa’s newest offering to the world. The Hawthorne-Scribner High School (HSHS), named after Holly Hawthorne, a prominent US educator, and her scientist husband, Dean Scribner, is the latest contribution to quality education that AAH Uganda has pursued since inception.
The idea behind HSHS is fairly simple, but it took many years to accomplish. It was 2007 when AAH Uganda realized a need for a secondary school. The previous year, AAH Uganda had sat its first students for the Primary Leaving Examinations (PLE). Contrary to expectations, all of the students passed in division one or two, and eligible to join secondary school. But there was no school in Bududa they could go to. A half-hearted attempt to build our own school fizzled because we had no money.
Fast forward 16 years, after lots of frustrations and fundraising along the way, we now have a school of our own. With land so fragmented in Bududa, it took us 16 full years and transactions with 79 different land sellers to accumulate the 15 acres of land the school sits on today.
And now, as we open the doors of HSHS, we are truly grateful for the patience of our students and teachers, the magnanimity of our parents and community, and the generous support of our partners and donors in America. We thank the students who have made HSHS their choice, and open our doors wide to anyone in Uganda who wants to learn with the best. This school means so much to us and our community here. In it we see new hope, a transformed future, and a country that is able to tackle its most pressing challenges. This school is your opportunity for a better future.

Hawthorne–Scribner High School awaits you

Welcome to Hawthorne-Scribner High School (HSHS), Uganda’s newest premiere high school located in the beautiful mountains of Bududa District. We are now accepting applications from qualified students for S1, S2 and S5 classes. We offer a UNEB-authorized full curriculum using the best teaching practices from the U.S. We use information and communications technology extensively throughout the curriculum so that students will become active, inquisitive learners during their student days and after graduating. We also address the whole child to ensure that each one matures in behaviour and character in addition to achieving superior academic performance. At HSHS, students will learn how to use their education to engage with their peers and the broader community to make a positive impact in the world, thus our motto: Educate – Engage – Empower.
To parents, please know that your child will be encouraged and challenged to set goals, assume responsibilities, work hard to achieve them and learn from the experiences. All along this path of discovery, they will know they are loved and supported by their teachers and staff in order to reach their full potential. Hawthorne-Scribner High School is creating the leaders of the 21st Century in Africa.
